As far as Jasse can tell, it was Andrew Carnegie, founder of US Steel, who gave the group process the name “Master Mind”.

Back in 1908, a freelance reporter named Napoleon Hill (who would later go on to write the mega-bestseller "Think and Grow Rich") was called into Andrew Carnegie's office. Carnegie promised to share with Hill the secrets that made him a multi-millionaire (in today's terms, a multi-billionaire!) as a steel baron and industrial titan. Carnegie said there were many things that led to his wealth -- picking the right opportunities, attention to details, financial intelligence. But above all, Carnegie said, “it was the power of a MasterMind group that enabled him to become of the richest men in America.

Although business has changed since the early 1900s the power of the MasterMind still works. Walt Disney, who built a global entertainment company, used the power of the MasterMind.

Mark Victor Hansen and Jack Canfield, who attribute the MasterMind concept to much of their success with Chicken Soup for the Soul and other ventures. Similarly, a recent Wall Street Journal article mentioned the private gatherings of a small group of high-powered Silicon Valley executives who come together on a regular basis to share ideas and offer mutual support -- another MasterMind Alliance at work.
